The mother of late Sulyman Olayinka, Alhaja Fausat Ayeyemi, has demanded for justice over the death of her son, Olayinka who died last week at age 27 after he was allegedly beaten to death by three police officers at Tanke area of Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara state.
As monitored by National Pilot correspondent, Alhaja Ayeyemi, joined by family members and sympathizers visited the state police headquarters in Ilorin to demand justice, insisting that her son’s death must not be ignored.
Fausat, overwhelmed with grief, wept and wailed, nearly tearing off her clothes as family members and sympathizers had to restrain her from going naked.
“The police have killed my son, depriving me of the joy and fulfillment of all the years of sacrifice I endured. My son was taken from me just when he had completed his education and was preparing to serve his country as a youth corps member,” she lamented.
Commenting on the incident, the counsel representing the deceased’s mother, Barrister Bakare, explained that the late Sulyman, hails from Ajase-Ipo in Kwara State.
He revealed that Sulyman had a rift involving an undisclosed amount with some friends he lived with in Tanke.
“Eight of Sulyman’s friends went to the Ganmo Police Division to report that he owed one of them money, leveraging their connection with an officer there. They hired a tricycle, tracked him down to Tanke, and, after a confrontation when he questioned their identities, began beating him.
“We have all the evidence, including the viral video showing how they attacked him mercilessly. This is a clear case of culpable homicide and must not be overlooked,” the lawyer declared.
