The President of the 8th Nigeria Senate Dr. Bukola Saraki, has extended his condolences to the family of Jimoh AbdulQodir Tunji, who tragically died in police custody in Ilorin, Kwara State. Saraki described the incident as deeply disturbing and emphasized the need for justice through a transparent investigation.
Speaking through a delegation led by Mallam Otukoko Olayinka Ibrahim to the deceased’s family at Erubu community in the Balogun Fulani area of Ilorin, Saraki, described the situation as deeply troubling. He applauded the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, for his prompt response to the incident. He also urged the police leadership to conduct a thorough investigation as well as prosecution of anyone found culpable in the tragic incident.
The delegation also included the PDP House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 elections, Hon. Taiye Alaya, Press Officer on Local Matters to Dr Bukola Saraki, Mr. Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir and Co-ordinator, 2024 PDP councillorship candidates forum, Comrade Mufutau Aromaradu.
Saraki, through his representative, also extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. He prayed for divine comfort for the parents of the deceased.
National Pilot recalls that Jimoh AbdulQodir Tunji tragically passed away under contentious circumstances while in police custody. His arrest stemmed from allegations of failing to repay a ₦220,000 debt owed to a customer.
Reports indicate that Tunji was detained by officers of the Kwara State Police Command, including the brother of his creditor, who had lodged a formal complaint regarding the unpaid debt.
During the condolence visit to the bereaved family, Mallam Otukoko Olayinka Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of Dr. Bukola Saraki, extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. He prayed for divine comfort for the parents of the deceased.
