The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) have signed a Memoranda of Understanding with Anambra state to enhance Industrial agricultural activities.
Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo, Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of NALDA made the disclosure while stressing that they’re ready to deliver on the mandate of President Ahmed Tinubu in ensuring food security in the country.
He explained that MOU with the Anambra State Government will drive industrial agriculture development in the state.
The MOU signing ceremony, which took place at the International Convention Centre Akwa was a highlight of the second edition of the Anambra Investment Summit, ANINVEST 2024 yesterday.
While Speaking, Engr. Adebayo said “This flagship project will create jobs, attract investments, and enhance food security through improved processing and distribution as it perfectly aligns with Mr President’s food security Agenda.
“This strategic partnership aims to promote agricultural growth, empower sustainable development, and foster economic prosperity in Anambra State.”
He further stated that “the partnership will concentrate on cultivating key crops of comparative advantage, such as oil palm, rice, citrus fruits, maize, and cassava, which are already thriving in the state.”
According to him NALDA’s role in the partnership will involve several key activities including land Clearing and preparation of 4,000 hectares of land for the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial city (AMIC).
He revealed that NALDA will Facilitate input support by providing farmers with access to essential inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and equipment.
“The organization will also offer Technical Advisory and Training, sharing expertise and best practices with farmers to enhance their productivity and efficiency. Furthermore, NALDA will provide Extension Services, working closely with farmers to identify and address challenges, and providing guidance on sustainable agricultural practices.
“In line with NALDA’s mandate to develop and utilize Nigeria’s agricultural land resources, the Authority is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving agricultural productivity, and enhancing food security.”
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the representative of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Governor of Anambra State, the Deputy Governor, the Kenyan High Commissioner, the Minister of Regional Planning, the UNDP Country Director, commissioners, heads of agencies, the MD of Africa Development Bank, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and representatives of organized civil society, amongst others.
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo lauded the gesture stressing that the government play it part in ensuring a robust Agricultural activities.
